Global Smart Education Conference 2025 (GSE2025)

Globethics was represented at the Global Smart Education Conference 2025 (GSE2025) by Dr Ratna Selvaratnam, member of the Globethics Pool of Experts on the Ethics of Digital and Emerging Technologies, at Beijing Normal University, China. The conference, co-organised by Beijing Normal University and the UNESCO Institute for Information Technologies in Education (UNESCO IITE), brought together global leaders in education, policy, technology, and research to explore the theme: Human-AI Collaboration: Reshaping the Educational Ecosystem for the Future.

Dr Selvaratnam

Dr Selvaratnam, who serves as leads learning technologies and innovation at Edith Cowan University (Australia) and as a member of the Executive Board of the Australasian Council for Open and Digital Education (ACODE), delivered a keynote address in the session on Academy-Industry Partnerships for Talent Cultivation. Her contribution on Bridging Academia, Industry & Research: A Global Dialogue on Ethical AI Governance highlighted the importance of responsible and human-centred approaches to artificial intelligence in education.

Drawing on international, regional, and institutional perspectives, including the Navigating the Future of Higher Education with AI Policy Dialogue Report from the 2024 ICDE Leadership Summit, Dr Selvaratnam proposed a human-centred framework for AI governance, ensuring that innovation is guided by ethical considerations across academia, industry, and research, as well as showcasing practical applications through a professional development case study.

Speaking on behalf of Globethics, Dr Selvaratnam emphasised the need for global dialogue on ethical AI, where values of equity, inclusivity, and sustainability shape the digital transformation of education.

 Global Smart Education Network (GSENet)

In addition to her keynote, Dr Selvaratnam represented Globethics at the Global Smart Education Network (GSENet) Partner Meeting, followed by the official banquet.

Globethics was welcomed as one of the network’s newest partners, joining an international community dedicated to advancing smart, inclusive, and ethical education systems.

Since its launch in 2020, the Global Smart Education Conference has become the flagship annual event of GSENet, providing a platform for research, policy exchange, and international collaboration. With founding members including UNESCO IITE, COL, ISTE, ALECSO, and SEAMEO, GSENet continues to expand its reach and impact, fostering innovation at the intersection of education, technology, and ethics.

Through Dr Selvaratnam’s contribution, Globethics reinforced its commitment to ensuring that emerging technologies in education are guided by ethics and serve the common good, equipping learners and institutions worldwide for a future of human–AI collaboration.
