Ethical leadership initiative launches in Africa

03 Mar 2025

A new initiative aimed at fostering ethical leadership and inclusive governance across Sub-Saharan Africa is set to launch this month. The Ethical Leadership for an Inclusive Future (ELIF) initiative, spearheaded by Globethics in collaboration with the All Africa Conference of Churches (AACC) and with the support of Brot für die Welt (Bread for the World), will be implemented in six countries across both anglophone and francophone regions.

Strengthening ethical leadership and governance

ELIF is designed to empower civil society organisations (CSOs) to take concrete actions that promote accountability, inclusivity, and sustainable transformation. Key objectives of the initiative include the establishment of anti-corruption policies within organisations and increasing the representation of youth and women in senior management teams to enhance diversity in leadership structures.

By strengthening ethical leadership and governance, ELIF seeks to create lasting institutional changes that uphold integrity, transparency, and inclusivity.

Advocacy for good governance and anti-corruption measures

Strengthening ethical leadership and governance

Beyond internal reforms, ELIF seeks to amplify advocacy for good governance and ethical leadership within communities. This includes joint advocacy initiatives, policy discussions on anti-corruption measures at the national level, and engagement with media and public figures to champion ethical governance. By positioning ethical leadership at the heart of public discourse, the initiative aspires to create lasting societal impact.

Building on a decade of success

The ELIF initiative builds on the achievements of the African Church Assets Programme (ACAP), which for the past ten years has equipped churches and related institutions with tools for ethical leadership and sustainable investment. With ELIF, the impact of these efforts will now extend beyond faith-based organisations to include CSOs from all sectors, ensuring that ethical leadership and governance become integral to social transformation in Sub-Saharan Africa.

As the initiative takes off, stakeholders are hopeful that ELIF will lay a strong foundation for a more inclusive, accountable, and ethically governed future across the region.
